The bitterness you see in a guy when this happens is such a reflection of their resentment for women who aren’t interested in them. Being an actual decent ‘nice’ guy/person means accepting that women will want people that aren’t you, and that its a valid option undeserving of negative judgement or bitterness.

Yes, it is often born of that stupid sentiment, which is the same that gave life to the demented “friendzone” thing.

On the other hand, shame on ANYONE who “goes for” ANYONE who isn’t nice and is generally an asshole, a player, a bad person — quite regardless of sex or gender. A woman who chooses the asshole over the good man is a proper object of criticism, as is the man who chooses the bimbo over the good woman.

There is no freedom of choice unless everyone else has the freedom to comment on that choice (and the freedom to ignore those comments, and so on).

Or how about women can choose to date whoever the fuck they want to date without fear of reprisal that amounts to “just another girl who goes for the asshole”, because women are whole human beings and are allowed to make their own decisions and their own mistakes and if you think you know what’s better for a woman, or anyone for that matter, better than they do based on absurd stereotypes, you’re a self-important jerk. How about we also point out how poignant it is that you insinuate the worst a woman can get is an “asshole” (ill-natured; potentially abusive, violent, aggressive, etc.) while the worst thing a man can get is a “bimbo” (pretty much just a stupid, albeit aesthetically pleasing woman). If you’re unable to make the connection here, you are in serious need of some reevaluating.

Sure, you can comment on people’s choices(which have absolutely nothing to do with you or your life and aren’t any of your business and you probably know nothing about them or their life or their motivations for their choices, but somehow you still feel entitled to a position to pass judgement because gosh darn that is your right), but if your comments come out as condescending, self-righteous, arrogant drivel, you’re gonna called out on it for being a condescending, self-righteous, arrogant jerk.

  6. And then there’s Sansa. Sansa Stark who named her deadly, killer direwolf Lady. And she trained her to be gentle, and quiet, and sweet and loving. And then what happens? The Baratheons have her killed. So now Sansa is so alone, having lost her family, her home and her Lady. But she is the exact opposite of what her father said would happen to wolves who end up alone. Ned Stark said that the only way they could survive was to stick together, and that was never an option. Robb had their mother. Rickon and Bran had Winterfell and then each other. Jon is on the wall, with his brothers, and then across it with Ygritte, then back to the wall. Arya had Gendry, and is still linked to Nymeria. But Sansa has absolutely no one who is her family. So she takes the strength and poise of a lady, and turns it into something as deadly and defensive as a direwolf’s fangs and claws. She knows that she is alone, and that no one is coming for her, so she adapts. She plays the game, she keeps her mouth shut, she stays alive.

Because the best way to hide a wolf, to keep people feeling safe, is to make them think it’s just a well trained dog.
